Gas, Oil or other fuel to keep your Radiator hot
If you have choice, what fuel should you use for a central heating system? Electricity is usually only used with under floor heating systems or storage heaters, which have been becoming unpopular in recent years. If you have a conventional central heating system with a boiler to provide hot water to bathroom and kitchen and heating via water pumped through a radiator what are your fuel options? They are mains gas, propane gas from tanks, oil or solid fuel. The UK has a very good distribution system of mains gas especially in urban and suburban areas, and mains gas will be probably be your best choice if the supply is available.

These leaves the Man or Woman in the mainly rural areas with no gas supply, who want to keep their warm with three choices of fuel; oil, solid fuel and gas from containers. Oil is convenient to deliver as it can be piped quite easily to your tank but its price and availability have fluctuated greatly in recent times. Solid fuel is anthracite or some other kind of smokeless coal based fuel, it needs handling during delivery, potentially unsightly storage and most problematic of all the boiler feed hopper topping up regularly, and the dust gets everywhere. Gas from containers is usually propane, it can be used to run a central heating system but because the storage is expensive, it is typically only used by hotels or restaurants that need the gas for cooking in any event, delivery is easy.
